Mariko Kumon is a Japanese artist based in Barcelona, Spain. Originally trained in applied mathematics at Fukuoka University, she made a life-changing shift nearly twenty years ago to pursue art. At La Llotja School of Design and Art in Barcelona, she immersed herself in casting and sculpture, eventually finding her voice in large-scale installations. Her work has even extended into wearable art, with a jewelry line once featured at the Joan Miró Museum.

For Mariko, sculpture is her truest language — a way to translate life’s emotions into form. Her creative process is guided by intuition, where spontaneity and movement play an essential role. The line, often transformed into wire, becomes a personal metaphor: twisting, curving, and undulating as it seeks its own space. These flowing, almost electric forms carry moods and sensations, building a visual language that is both intimate and universally resonant.
